99th Wing ACC Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota no aircraft assigned

The 99th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing was activated at Fairchild AFB in January 1953 with the RB-29 and RB-36. The unit was redesignated the 99th Bombardment Wing in October 1955 and moved to Westover AFB in September 1956. The B-52 was operated from 1956 and the KC-135A from 1966 until 1972, with the unit inactivating in March 1974. The 99th Strategic Weapons Wing was activated in 1989 as operational component of SAC's Strategic Warfare Center to teach and develop tactics to bomber and tanker aircrew. The unit subsequently changed designation to the 99th Wing.
